POINT membership met at the Loyal Order of the Moose May 13, 2008 at 7:30pm. Chuck Starrett opened the meeting and welcomed all members and visitors.
Dick Haynes read the minutes of the April 8, 2008 meeting and gave treasurer’s report. Chuck requested a vote to approve the minutes. Motion made by Chet Osborne and seconded by Ed Liette. Chuck requested a vote to approve the treasurer’s report. Motion made by Jim Cruse and seconded by Gerry Hausfield. Minutes and treasurer’s report were approved by show of hands.
Chuck updated attendees briefly on Sign Ordinance law suit and ACLU involvement with the referendums.
Chuck introduced Deputy Chief Bruce Jamison and Lt. Tom Steiner of the Piqua Police Department who made a presentation explaining the restructuring of the department. They expressed there appreciation to the housing providers for their help in reducing the crime rate by vetting their tenants. Chet Osborn praised the Neighborhood Officer program for making the department more resident friendly.
Deputy Chief Jamison offered to present a Landlord seminar if one was desired.
No one from the North Parks Neighborhood Association could be in attendance because of commitments in the school system.
Chuck introduced Retired Fire Chief Russ Selby who gave us the history of the emergency squad so we could understand why squad operates with a 3 man crew.
Bill Hogston followed Russ with more detail on the current operation and the anticipated changes that may be implemented do the budget considerations.
Both police and fire department representatives confirmed that heroin is in Piqua and is becoming an issue.
Chuck discussed ethics statement that was distributed to everyone and asked for additions or changes be brought to the next meeting.
Chuck requested input on the website and he will be working with OREIA to get our website listed on their website.
Chuck suggested that housing providers get to know the neighbors around their rentals.
